The number of people with payment defaults is falling
The official payment defaults` statistics shows us that Estonian people`s accounts settlement behaviour is continually improving – compared to last year, the number of private persons with unsettled payment defaults has decreased by ten thousand. A significant reason for this is the efficient work of the payment defaults` register and active usage of the register by creditors, which also positively impacts private persons` payment habits.
If last year, 81 030 persons had unsettled payment defaults, then this year, it was 71 407. The share of settled payment defaults of all payment defaults makes up 63,1 percent compared to last year`s 50,1 percent.
The payment defaults` register is a register describing private persons` credit history and payment habits, which aims to give additional information in order to make credit decisions. The register is administered by AS Krediidiinfo.According to today`s responsible lending principle, the register helps banks and other creditors to make decisions based on the acquired person`s longer than five-years credit history and also to avoid the private person`s bankruptcy or overlending.
